He discusses his harsh stateside training and terrible conditions at his base in Italy - harsh weather, bad food & living quarters, and poor leadership. Haupt includes official lists of his 50 combat missions over continental European. He details missions to Vienna; Rumania; Fredrickschafen, Germany; and Yugoslavia. Also included are documents related to his decorations, and a brief unit history.

Haupt served in the US Army Air Corps, 464th Bombardment Group, 777th Bombardment Squadron, 55th Wing, 15th Air Force as a navigator during World War II.
